In April, just as the pandemic was bringing the country to a standstill, this beautiful M715 popped up for sale on Craigslist in Maryland. I didn’t have the funds, and I certainly wasn’t going to drive several states away to buy it (although now of course I realize I could have had it shipped, and I’m kicking myself for not thinking about that and a loan, but that didn’t seem like an ideal time to spend big bucks on something I didn’t actually need, just lusted after).
Now, what should pop up in Maryland? Among the rarest Jeeps ever, and certainly among the most aesthetically-challenged: a CJ-10A, a variation on the also-rare and not made for US-consumption CJ-10.
I covered the CJ-10 in my truck series.

The CJ-10A was a short wheelbase Air Force tug with a diesel. And now you can have one for $4500 via eBay. Sure, that seems a bit much for such an ugly duckling, but think of the Radwood cred.

I like Maryland too, though there’s certainly no bias from having lived there most of my life.

The Virginia educational system is so bad they don’t even teach you about Mississippi?

Holy Crap! That seems downright reasonable for that thing.
Although you’d have your work cut out for you to extend that wheelbase and replace the suspension to turn it into a stable workable jeep.
That wheelbase has to be sub-80 inches!

I didn’t notice your brake ring post at the time, but yes, I do have one. The stock 3rd brake light impedes on my rear view, so I removed it.

Wow that is big.
I remember now from your history of jeeps article that I read the other day (nice read btw) that they’re based on the FSJ and not the CJ.

Being in Delaware, sometimes its hard to tell where my state stops and Maryland begins. Well, it was, until the pandemic suddenly made state borders important again.

I remember having gone to Ocean City, because that’s the prime east coast beach location, but ended up at a boardwalk in Delaware.
Much less crowded, and cleaner, and still had Thrasher’s fries. So all in all, it was fantastic.

Damn, if I wasn’t on quarantine I’d go check it out for you!
(And don't worry, it's pre-travel quarantine, just want to make sure I don't get the COVID and then take it with me.)

No loss , it’s auto + diesel, neither of which interest me, so my attention on this is purely historical, not acquisitional.
Admittedly, i t would be fun to take this in the Toledo Jeep Fest parade next year, but there ain’t no way I’m spending $4k just for that privilege.
How long before you travel?

I travel next Sunday. Then Im gone for 24 days or something like that. Another work trip. Not thrilled about it, but I'll make some good $$$ which means if I can unload the 850 and the Cruze when I get back, I should be in a good position to get a new car when I get back!

Be safe, and enjoy the eventual new toy. I’ll have a new toy of my own to post about next week. I hope. I really, dearly hope.

The beach towns are nice, and given the amount of 55+ communities around there, actually stay somewhat vibrant year round. I know there’s a not insignificant number of tourists who rent houses in Fenwick Island or Bethany Beach, even if their goal is to spend time in Ocean City, because it will be quiet and relaxing when they do decide to go back home to sleep.

Yep, I can understand the appeal, though my mother never trusted renting a house... in fact I don’t think she does today, so it had to be a beachside hotel or it was nothing. Besides, we tend to make the trip to the boardwalk in MD ( with the exception that one time we went up to Delaware) so it makes sense to stay closer to it.

Plus, Ocean City has Harrison’s Harbor Watch, fantastic seafood au gratin. But, on the other hand, Rehoboth Beach has Red Square. I’ll call that a tie.
